Going fast has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots.

There were two OEM optioned carbs fitted by the Suzuki factory to the DRZ400 here in Australia and world wide maybe others, being either a CV Mikuni for road use or a flatslide Keihin for off road only.

The Keihin came in three front to back lengths we are aware of- 100mm the same as the TM40, 95 or 88mm which is a very short carb, if changing out any of these Keihins because of the common throttle valve wear and failure, some modifications will be required to be performed by yourself. All the Keihins have a 55mm OD inlet matching the TM40 and we fit an outlet sleeve to increase the TM40 to match the 47mm outside diameter at the Keihin motor end. This Kit for replacing the Keihin Carb includes- TM40 carb, a fitted 47mm OD carb outlet sleeve, a quick action throttle and nylon lined throttle cables, a knob choke or optional cable choke with universal mounting bracket on request, jets fitted with spares for fine tuning. The CV Mikuni carb replacement process documented in the picture library also applies in most instances to the Kiehin.

If doing a performance upgrade, replacing the Mikuni BST CV carb please confirm measurements, where your carb dimensions should be 42mm OD motor end  – 95mm front to back   – 58 mm OD at the air box end. We don’t bother to put a 58.5 mm sleeve on the inlet as this will lengthen the already 100mm carb by another 2mm for this very tight application where better to just clamp down the rubber. The motor end is 44mm so some spit and she’ll pop in. Check out the pictures to view the step by stem process when replacing on a DRZ400SM UK model. This Kit for replacing the CV Mikuni Carb includes- TM40 carb, optional quick action throttle and nylon lined throttle cables (your stock cables and throttle can be adapted), a knob choke or optional cable choke with universal mounting bracket on request, jets fitted with spares for fine tuning.

You have to remove or loosen your rear frame to remove the air filter box compartment.

In some applications you can get away with just removing the unused idle speed tag on the cable bracket hanging out behind the alloy cable rotor. The other method when replacing the shorter Keihin carbs which eliminates the need to cut or grind anything off the carb is to remove the rubber engine mounting flange, then using a die grinder remove the internal ridge allowing the new TM40 to penetrate further forward into the rubber thus clearing the tank and frame behind. The kit also comes with throttle cables and a quick action throttle. There are jets provided that must be changed as well as spares for fine tuning. Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables. The TM40-6 comes with a side pull knob choke.

IF NOT WANTING TO PURCHASE THE KIT IN ITS ADVERTISED FORM PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW. If wishing to modify or use your existing Susuki DRZ400 cables to suit the Mikuni TM40-6 you can purchase the carburetor, tuner jet kit and or what ever other components you want individually by following the directions below. On the main menu to the left of the page, hover over the carb listing for TM Carbs with Accel Pump and then select TM40-6 from the drop down list. When clicking on any individual size Mikuni carb from the drop down list it will put you into a page showing not only the Mikuni carb itself but also any items relevant to that carb, being Mikuni jets, Mikuni flanges, Mikuni carb tuner kits, Mikuni cables , Mikuni throttles, Mikuni air-cleaners and a range of Mikuni carb to OEM air box adaptors etc to also suit. This also makes alternate jet selection easy for you if you have your own spec as only the type jets for that particular carb are shown. Click on the carb itself if wanting to view the full details and or to make your purchase. Then back arrow back in the carbs main page and go into the tuner kits, which show in the sales drop down list the jetting kits we have for confirmed suitable engines for that particular carb. Again thoroughly read the tuner kit description. Replacing the stock CV carb on my ’07 DRZ400SM with the TM40 pumper kit has given a huge increase in performance. The accelerator pump gives a really snappy throttle response and no bogging down like the OEM carb. The supplied jet kit works great – straight out of the box . Starting is better ,Idle is smoother and it pulls strongly all the way through the rev range with no flat spots. Part throttle cruising is just like the old CV carb. A much cheaper option than the Keihin FCR and easier to tune. I’d definitely recommend buying the full kit and ask for the longer (1050mm) throttle cables.
