Description

Going fast has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots.  These Mikuni carburetors are correctly sized and easily fitted to your Suzuki DR650 air box and intake manifold flange using the  silver anodized engine outlet spigot adapter, this adapter is fitted prior to delivery when purchasing complete kits. This  kit is intended for fitment using your stock throttle cables on post 1996 models and does not come with our throttle cables and a 1/4 turn quick action throttle assembly. There are jets provided that must be changed as well as two spare mains for fine tuning at WOT. Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. In this this kit we have included what we have found to be the most commonly used combination of jets to allow you to tune for most variables. The TM40-6 comes with a 6″ cable choke for which a mounting bracket is included if not wanting to connect up your stock cable. A knob choke can be purchased separately.

You will instantly experience better throttle response, improved acceleration, increased horsepower and torque.  In a number of instances Dyno tests have shown improvements of up to and over 25%  when fitted to OEM carburetored engines.

IF NOT WANTING TO PURCHASE THE KIT IN ITS ADVERTISED FORM PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW.

If wishing to modify or use your existing Susuki DR650 cables to suit the Mikuni TM40-6 or use a POD filter rather than the original air-box you can purchase the carburetor, tuner jet kit and or what ever other components you want individually by following the directions below.

On the main menu to the left of the page, hover over the carb listing for TM Carbs with Accel Pump and then select TM40-6 from the drop down list. When clicking on any individual size Mikuni carb from the drop down list it will put you into a page showing not only the Mikuni carb itself but also any items relevant to that carb, being Mikuni jets, Mikuni flanges, Mikuni carb tuner kits, Mikuni cables , Mikuni throttles, Mikuni air-cleaners and a range of Mikuni carb to OEM air box adaptors etc to also suit. This also makes alternate jet selection easy for you if you have your own spec as only the type jets for that particular carb are shown.
Click on the carb itself if wanting to view the full details and or to make your purchase. Then back arrow back in the carbs main page and go into the tuner kits, which show in the sales drop down list the jetting kits we have for confirmed suitable engines for that particular carb. Again thoroughly read the tuner kit description.
If you’re comfortable with making a purchase of the carb, tuner kit any or other associated components, order it on line or otherwise please call us to further discuss your needs on 0747712677.

  1. Rhys

I wet bench tested prior to install to check for pumper jet aim and for any leaks.
I did take the time to read the enclosed carb manual, was great to know about how it works prior to installing.
I also moved the return spring to the middle notch so the throttle would not be so stiff.
The Carb is now installed on my DR650, I removed the airbox to make the install easier, glad I did as it was pretty tight. I used the original DR hose clamps but had to trim off the raised edge of the airbox clamp as it was making contact with the base of the carb which prevented it sliding in all the way. I also trimmed off the 2 rubber alignment knobs on the head port boot for more clearance.
I can now clarify that the stock cables actually do work fine with this carb, although they are about 5mm near the end of their full adjustment.
I also removed the stock choke cable and decided to go with the remote option. I attached this with the bracket to one on the left side case bolts. I just had to narrow the bracket slightly for the bolt hole to line up with the side case one.
After installing I went into test stage. Super stoked as the bike started pretty much instantly with choke. (Usually took about 3 seconds from cold with the BST40)
I left choke on about 30 seconds and then turned choke off and went for a ride.
The carb produces good smooth power right off idle through to WOT.
No flat spots. No bogs or hiccups. No surging at any throttle position. Will stick with the 145 main jet for now.
My BST40 had been tuned with the procycle mods and it did run very well. I have an opened airbox with a Leo vince slip on and stock header pipe(with the crap internal weld removed)
I estimate with the TM40 carb maybe a 10 to 15% pulling power increase over the modded BST.
With lower gearing she will no doubt rip even harder.
I have the idle mixture screw set at 2 1/2 turns out which seems to idle about right but will check plugs in a few days to confirm.
Idle is set to about 1500rpm.
Thanks again for the great service, and for also answering my emails promptly.
Being in New Zealand I was truely amazed at ordering on Tuesday and receiving at my door on Thursday! Outstanding.
