Mikuni offers two different HSR42 Performance Sportster Carburetor Kits for replacing the under-performing OEM Harley CV carbs. This kit is for use on motorcycles still fitted with the stock plastic air-filter backing plate, where on some earlier models the poly air box can foul on the Mikuni requiring either this backing plate or the heating and depressing the poly rear housing to accommodate the larger carb.  This Kit (42-10), just for Sportsters includes a special airbox backing plate as shown to work with the stock oval cover and a Screamin’ Eagle high flow replacement filter.

The other Kit (42-11) , without the backing plate, works on both Buells and Sportsters with an aftermarket performance air filter assembly. The Mikuni Kits work with the stock CV push-pull throttle and choke cable assemblies.

Carburetors are designed with an 8-roller bearing flat throttle slide assembly for smooth throttle control with reduced effort, that allows an unobstructed venturi at full throttle to flow more air, while it carburates more precisely at all throttle settings.  And the Mikuni adjustable accelerator pump provides instant throttle response in any riding or performance application. While a high capacity float bowl prevents fuel starvation even under full throttle applications.
