Description

This Mikuni RS36 carburetor Kit will breathe a whole new lease of life into your machine with an up to 25% increase in power, whilst making it perform and operate as it should with no hesitations or flat spots.

You will very quickly realize that the expense of a rebuild of your old worn OEM carbs can far exceed the cost of these new units and unfortunately as with many rebuilds now days you only have the option in many cases of gambling with very poor quality aftermarket parts. Considering this and if intending to ride and enjoy your motorcycle for years to come, it makes good sense to retire your OEM carbs into the cupboard and step up to a set of RS’s, the improvement will be very impressive.

Before rushing in and ordering please firstly check your carb spacing and carbie sizes for compatibility.

These carbs measure 100mm front to back length and 55mm OD at the air-filter inlet end and 42mm OD at the outlet, they are a direct fit if replacing Mikuni CV Carbs. The OEM throttle cables on XV Yamaha Virago’s fitted with Mikuni CV’s will fit these RS carbs where models that have Hitachi carbs, will not. When replacing Hitachi carbs, you have the option of having your cables modified elsewhere to fit or you can take the carb option supplied with our accessory throttle and cable combo. The Hitachi carbs are also around 16mm longer than the CV’s and the new RS Carbs, where if wanting to retain your stock air-box we can fit 16mm extenders to your new carb set. Another popular remedy for this is using POD’s where these are found in the “RS carb accessories” page found in the main menu “RS Smoothbore Kits multi Cylinder” drop list.

This Mikuni kit comes with the following carb throat centre to centre spacing’s for direct fitment to Yamaha  XS750 and XS850 triple models and others with simular carb spacing measurements.

A= 90mm (spacing centre to centre between carb 1 & 2)
B= 90mm (spacing centre to centre between carb 2 & 3)
Pilot Jet: VM28/486-17.5, Needle: 9DZH1, Needle Jet: P-4 (568 Series), Main Jet: N100.604-120/130

A spare set of size 15 pilots are provided and may need fitting when using the stock air-box. Two spare sets of mains are also provided for WOT testing for confirming correct tune. Other than that bolt them on and hold on.

You can also buy separately either POD filters or Velocity stacks for racing, which have no form of filter in them (15, 30,50 and 75mm long).

    Just fitted a set of RS 36 Mikuni to a 1980 XS850, bike completely stock. Carbs fit real nice and ran well straight up. No Jet change as supplied by Tom. Could not recommend enough.

    40+ year old Hitachi carbs fitted to my XS850. I’ve spent quite a bit of money and time trying to get them to operate correctly, with limited success.
    I read good reports about fitting Mikuni RS36 carbs to an XS1100, so decided to buy the kit for my 850 from Mikunioz.
    I’m genuinely delighted with the results, its like a different bike! Everything needed was in the kit and it fitted perfectly. I have the original airbox and the aluminium spacers provided, are a very neat solution to bridge the gap from the (narrower) Mikuni’s.

    It’s quite an investment. But when you factor in the cost of mucking about with the Hitachi’s, rebuild kits, set-up time and frustrating hours spent in the garage. I wish I’d just gone straight for this Mikuni RS36 kit last year.
    I asked Tom for some set-up tips and he’s sent me a raft of information that will help optimise the performance of the carburettors. But straight out of the box the old girl runs well.

    Would highly recommend this kit, it’ll transform your bike.

    Stoked with the carbs brought a new lease on life into the old girl. ‘
    The mechanic I used said they were a high quality kit and went in straight from the box.

    Thanks

    Bought these before Covid. Old carbs were ruined when the vac seal on one of the petcocks broke. Sucked gas through everything including the motor. Oil Chamber filled with gas. I came close to stripping the machine for parts. Covid over, the memory of the new mikuniOZ carbs returned. In about 5 hours I removed the old carbs and installed the new ones. Remember, this bike had not run in 5 years. I did flush all oils many times. Gave it power and within 15 seconds it started. 10 seconds more to adjust the idle and it ran absolutely perfect. I have a 1997 Thunderbird with locked carbs from corrosion. Sone as I get the cask, I will be ordering a set for it as well. Yes they cost, alot. But they work, no headache. Yes, you can fix 45 year old carbs, but do you want the possible issues.

    I have struggled for years and years trying to cobble together a set of Hitachi’s that wouldn’t blow a shaft seal or have some other problem like floats not seating. Don’t even get me started on tuning them either. You just live with a wonky and hanging idle. But not anymore thanks to Tom and the rest of the team. These are AMAZING. First off, right out of the box they’re just beautiful. They fit perfectly on my bike and took no time at all to install. I went with the pod filters so no further jetting needed. I hooked up the fuel lines, and my XS850 fired right up. I couldn’t believe how flat and even the idle was. I’ve never heard it run so good. I took it out for a road test, and wow it really pulls. I didn’t have any issues at any RPM range. Tom is fantastic. He answered a lot of questions that I had and was very friendly and helpful. I’m located in the US so I was a bit concerned about shipping times, but Tom got these to me in a week!! These are truly worth every penny. I’m excited to put my old airbox and Hitachi’s on ebay and never think of them again.
