Description

This Mikuni TM38 Flatslide single carburetor conversion kit is for fitment to MuZ Skorpion 660 models which use a Yamaha 660 engine. These kits are available in this the budget priced TM38 and also high performance TM40 and TM42 pumper versions. The TM38 though our budget option for these motorcycles is still a step up in performance over your OEM carbs and an easy resolution to non repairable, worn out stock carbs. These have for decades been the economical replacement carb of choice for Honda XR600 and XR650 riders and of recent times Yamaha 600, who have worn out their OEM carbs or are just over some of their inherent problems. All this means getting the full enjoyment out of your motorcycle has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots.

These TM38 kits do require a tank modification to accommodate the top and center exiting throttle cable. The picture shows the minimal space above the carb where our low profile 90 degree cable end requires 25mm of clearance above the carb.

Important information regarding your gas tank clearance: A competent person can easily heat and depress the contact area to allow the throttle cable clearance under this tank. After thorough removal of all fuel from inside the tank, slowly heat an extended area using a heat gun. Allow plenty of time for the heat to absorb right through the Polyethylene. If the heated area gets shiny or wet in appearance this indicates the surface is melting and you do not have full heat penetration. Shield in from the edge to avoid paint job damage. Once it starts to become soft when pressing, usually around 140 degrees C, carefully depress and hold the area using the end of a broom handle to make a contoured channel forward. The polyethylene material will not lose any of its strength or integrity once cooled back down as long as you allow for an even spread without excessive thinning at the edges. If at all concerned we highly recommend having this professionally done. The improvement in performance and solution to failing old carbs, far outweighs any inconvenience or time taken to properly prepare and mount this kit. Generally it’ll take around a 1/2 hour to do this tank mod, with a couple of test fits before perfection.

Kit Options: This kit is available in Basic form for use with a pod filter (not supplied) or with our air-box connection kit. For airbox connection on the Belgarda, the connection can run straight back above the shock, where we provide a black anodised alloy plate for sealing and riveting to your OEM air-box face to seal off the remains of the twin ports after you have cut out a larger central hole. There’s an alloy flange you need to rivet to the plate using sealant ( 3 blind rivets supplied) and a length of reinforced silicon pipe for connection to the back of the carb using the provided clamps.

The kit comes with a Mikuni TM38-86 carb, cast two into one manifold with mounting hardware, heavy duty rubber engine mounting flange to isolate the heat, a 1/4 turn quick action throttle and a nylon lined cable with a 90 degree lower fitting which screws directly into the carburetor top for clearance . There are jets provided that must be changed as well as spares for fine tuning.

Kit Components: This kit is available in Basic form for use with a pod filter (not supplied). The kit comes with a Mikuni TM42-6 carb, a PA11 carbon fibre nylon printed two into one manifold with mounting hardware and gaskets, heavy duty rubber engine mounting sleeve with clamps,  a nylon lined cable with a 90 degree lower fitting which screws directly into the carburetor top for clearance. There are jets fitted as well as spare main jets for WOT fine tuning. The carb comes with a rarely ever required knob choke where if in colder climates you find you do need to use the choke and access to the knob is an issue, we sell separately either a cable choke adapter kit ( MK-412 ) or a complete kit with universal bracket and 310mm long cable ( MK-412-310C ).

Fitting Tips: This kit requires cutting out the front of the air box to accommodate a large POD filter being either a 150mm long highest flowing Red Uni-Filter with sock or similar size cloth paper type POD. The fore-mentioned tank mod is required with our budget TM38 carb kit and TM42 RH control Carb. The TM40 pumper and TM42 with LH control have sufficient clearance under the tank. If you check out our Yamaha 600 Belgarda kit options and again the Yamaha 350 kit, where you’ll see we offer an air box connection kit with those carbs where you may be able to duplicate something similar with your bike. Please discuss this with us as some of the components we have may be of use.

Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables worldwide.

IF NOT WANTING TO PURCHASE THE KIT IN ITS ADVERTISED FORM PLEASE FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS BELOW.
