Description

Going fast has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots.  This Mikuni TM36-68 carburetor is correctly sized and easily fitted to your Yamaha 400cc and 500cc SR, TT and XT models. This Mikuni TM36-68 Pumper carburetor fits as a direct replacement to the Yamaha SR, Yamaha TT and Yamaha XT inlet snorkel and with the fitment of the provided outlet mounting flange, which move the carb slightly forward, enables it to properly clear the frame. Though most Yamaha OEM Push/Pull throttle cables will fit, this kit has the added benefit of coming with new throttle cables and a 1/4 turn quick action throttle. On models with vacuum operated fuel taps there is no allowance for your hose connection on this mounting flange or the carb which does have a boss for fitting a hose tail but none is available through Mikuni or provided. Most people will change out the tap for a non vacuum type but please do note that the wow factor experienced on your first blast around the block far outways any inconvience from having to sort out a fuel tap. There are jets provided that must be changed as well as spares for fine tuning the main jet circuit doing WOT tests. Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables using Australian fuels.

At Mikunioz, for the last 30 years, we have been constantly checking and where necessary upgrading our jetting specs as fuel quality changes. Regular fuel in the USA is 85 octane or 91 in their premium brands which have numerous additives and blends added (basically smells and drys like wood varnish) which results in a totally different jetting spec and product performance. This carb as supplied from the factory will never work on this bike and requires a total re-jet as supplied loose with your carb.

You will instantly experience better throttle response, improved acceleration, increased horsepower and torque.  In a number of instances Dyno tests have shown improvements of up to and over 25%  when fitted to OEM carburetored engines.

If wishing to modify or use your existing Yamaha cables to suit the mikuni TM36-68 you can purchase the carburetor, tuner jet kit and or what ever other components you want individually by following the directions below.

On the main menu to the left of the page, hover over the carb listing for TM Carbs with Accel Pump and then select TM36-68 from the drop down list. When clicking on any individual size Mikuni carb from the drop down list it will put you into a page showing not only the Mikuni carb itself but also any items relevant to that carb, being Mikuni jets, Mikuni flanges, Mikuni carb tuner kits, Mikuni cables , Mikuni throttles, Mikuni air-cleaners and a range of Mikuni carb to OEM air box adaptors etc to also suit. This also makes alternate jet selection easy for you if you have your own spec as only the type jets for that particular carb are shown.

    A couple of hours to fit to a standard 1980 SR 500. Decided to leave the standard twist grip on. Also got a new fuel tap from Mikes XS in the US without the vaccum hose. after a few kicks it started.
    Now the back idles without stalling. Also can feel a better response under acceleration.

    Dear Mikunioz,
    With the flat slide TM36 Pumper Mikuni and your suggestions I have a stock (Except for exhaust) SR500 running clean and free.
    I took the bike for a thrash around locked down Melbourne. The bike starts well, revs hard to the redline and pulls like a schoolboy.
