This is a good budget option for keeping that older 70’s custom look whilst going even faster has never been so easy, say goodbye to hard starting, hesitations and flatspots. This VM38 Mikuni roundslide carb, will fix all your old stock carb issues and look great but usually for by far way bigger performance improvements we suggest using our HS40 Pumper kit.
The kit includes:
A pre-jetted VM38 Mikuni Carburetor. An optional Mikuni designed cast dropdown manifold for better overhead clearance. This is a band type manifold where replacement bands and or clamps are not provided and must be bought elsewhere. The carb mates to our or your manifold with a provided Mikuni heavy duty rubber mounting flange designed and made for the Harley market, a USA made Pancake air-cleaner, 2″ wide and 5.5″ diameter with an off set flange, the filter can be changed to the pictured one with chrome cover by putting a note in the cart message box. The filter media can be washed and re-oiled. This light weight filter is great for many unsupported applications but with the nature of the early Harley mounting system and especially if wanting to fix a chrome cover to it, we advise the use of a support bracket or brackets of sorts. This filter has been specially designed and made for Mikunioz by S&B filters in the USA and has a Moz embossed rubber cover. The kit comes with a new single pull throttle (1/4″unc pull hole thread), Select when purchasing your choice of cable length. The matching Mikuni throttle cables can be selected by overall elbow to elbow length measurement in 34″ (870mm), 40″ (1030mm), 46″ (1160MM) or 52″ (1330MM) length. The lower end has a low profile 90 degree fitting that screws directly into Mikuni VM carb top.
The choke is usually never needed in most climates. Normally just start, feather the throttle for 15 seconds or so and you’re right to go.
The jets to make this carb operate on your Harley have been fitted and there are spare mains for fine tuning the main jet circuit doing WOT tests. Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of fuels.

At Mikunioz, for the last 30 years, we have been constantly checking and where necessary upgrading our jetting specs as fuel quality changes. Regular fuel in the USA is 85 octane or 91 in their premium brands which have numerous additives and blends added (basically smells and drys like wood varnish) which results in a totally different jetting spec and product performance. This carb as supplied from the factory will never work on this bike and requires a total re-jet which is done in house at Mikunioz prior to delivery with jets to suit your location anywhere in the world.
You will instantly experience better throttle response, improved acceleration, increased horsepower and torque.

This also makes alternate jet selection easy for you if you have your own spec as only the type jets for that particular carb are shown.
