Description
This Mikuni TM40 Pumper single carburetor conversion kit is for fitment to Yamaha SZR 660 models where some modifications and extra items purchased elsewhere are required.
This kit is also available in the budget priced TM38 option and the higher performing TM42 pumper carb version. To fit these other carbs without major alterations, the removal of the air box is required with replacement using a flexible connection tube and large POD. The 42 is available with a custom fitted, low profile LH throttle attachment ( as an option for Honda XR650R ), mimicking this TM40 carb where if wanting to retain the oem air box will work but at an extra expense. The TM40 Pumper has proven itself to be a spectacular upgrade on all brands in the 600cc and larger big thumper market, with very impressive performance gains on the 600 Belgarda and SRX. Due to air-box space restrictions overhead this carb is the easiest fit up option for your SZR 660. If wanting to retain the use of your OEM air box, you will need to fabricate a cover plate to close off the two air-box entries converting it to accept the supplied rivet on single alloy funnel, as seen in the second product picture. This easily connects to the back of the new carb using a purchased elsewhere, matching silicon automotive 55mm 90 degree elbow. Wide open throttle runs with both your filter on and off will determine if you have sufficient filter area to supply this carbs demand. This same process also determines the best suited of the supplied main jet options.
The kit comes with a Mikuni TM40-6 carb, a PA11 carbon fibre nylon printed two into one manifold with mounting hardware and gaskets, heavy duty rubber engine mounting sleeve with clamps to isolate the heat, an anodised 55mmOD rivet on flange, a 1/4 turn quick action throttle and a nylon lined push/pull cable set, a 310mm long choke cable with universal mounting bracket. There are spare jets provided for fine tuning.
Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables worldwide.
