This Mikuni TM42 Flatslide Pumper single carburetor conversion kit is for fitment to 1988-1990 Teneree 600 models with the overhead air box. Our original test set up bike was a XT600U (1986-89). We have come across an owner in the UK with a XT600z 3AJ where the inside diameter of his cut air-box boots are 45mm and 55mm which required sleaving up as they were way larger than the XT600U at 39mm and 45mm. This is the size we have on hand where please advise if you have larger and if prepared to wait we can 3D print to suit. The XT600z airbox also has a down facing pipe that needs to be removed and the lower inside corner on the air-box heated and depressed by 10mm for cable bracket clearance.

Warning- slight variations from frame construction may on rare occasions make sliding the air-box adapter in through the two frame uprights with out using any force, impossible on some bikes. If so you will have to remove components under the seat to position it in from behind. Forcing the adapter will cause breakage, not covered by warranty.
Some models have 6mm fuel lines where you will need to purchase elsewhere an 8 to 6mm reducing hose tail or better still an inline fuel filter with the mixed sizes. Fuel line is not provided.
Only this TM42 pumper carb kit will fit this Teneree as both the budget priced TM38 and the TM40 pumper carbs will not fit with these frames due to a lack of available space behind the carb.
The TM42 Pumper has proven itself to be a spectacular upgrade on all brands in the 600cc and larger big thumper market. These TM42 Mikuni carburetors adapt to your stock air-box when using our supplied, forked air-box adapter.
The kit comes with a Mikuni TM42-6 carb, cast two into one manifold with mounting hardware, heavy duty rubber engine mounting flange to isolate the heat, a forked air-box adapter with a carb end hose clamp (requiring the shortening of your OEM rubbers for connection), a 1/4 turn quick action throttle and a nylon lined push/pull cable set. A 310mm long choke cable with universal mounting bracket. There are spare jets provided for fine tuning.
Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables worldwide.

Procedure for heating and depressing OEM air-box on XT600z
This is the process required for a few gas tanks on some other brands. The magic heat is 140 degrees C. A competent person can easily heat and depress the contact area to allow throttle bracket clearance on this air-box. Slowly heat an extended area using a heat gun. Allow plenty of time for the heat to absorb right through the Polyethylene. If the heated area gets shiny or wet in appearance this indicates the surface is melting and you do not have full heat penetration. Once it starts to become soft when pressing, carefully depress the area. The polyethylene material will not lose any of its strength or integrity once cooled back down as long as you allow for an even spread without excessive thinning. If at all concerned we highly recommend having this professionally done. The pipe that needs to be removed can first be cut and folded over and then knitted to the main body using a soldering iron. The improvement in performance far outweighs any inconvenience.
