Description

This Mikuni TM42 Pumper single carburetor conversion kit is for fitment to Yamaha SZR 660 models when wanting to use the OEM air-box, due to the position of the TM42 carbs RH side cable connection bracket which interferes with the OEM air-box, we have an alternate kit with a custom fitted LH side throttle assembly for use with the OEM air-box. As the gas tank allows no room behind the carb for a filter, a POD filter needs to be mounted overhead where there is a lot of space once the air-box is removed. To successfully plumb in this new arrangement you need to buy elsewhere, either a solid U bend or flexible reinforced type vacuum pipe to mount on the TM42’s 65mm spigot (2 1/2″ usually OK) for doing a U turn back up and over the carb, then connecting to an as large as possible POD. The POD should be firmly held in place by means other than just the connection to the carb.

The TM42 Pumper has proven itself to be our most spectacular upgrade on all brands in the 600cc and larger big thumper market, with very impressive performance gains on all Yamaha 600’s.  Due to air-box space restrictions overhead this carb isn’t the easiest fit up option for your SZR 660, but well worth the effort. Wide open throttle runs with both your filter on and off will determine if you have sufficient filter area to supply this carbs demand. This same process also determines the best suited of the supplied main jet options.To use of your OEM air box, you will need to fabricate a cover plate to close off the two air-box entries converting it to accept the rivet on the supplied single alloy funnel, as seen in the product picture. This easily connects to the back of the new carb using a purchased elsewhere, matching silicon automotive 2 1/2″ 90 degree elbow.  Wide open throttle runs with both your filter box open and closed will determine if you have sufficient air supply and if filter area to supply this carbs demand or id additional holes need to be drilled into the air-box. This same process also determines the best suited of the supplied main jet options.

The kit comes with a custom modified Mikuni TM42-6 carb with lefthand throttle cable attachment, a PA11 carbon fibre nylon printed two into one manifold with mounting hardware and gaskets, heavy duty rubber engine mounting sleeve with clamps, a 1/4 turn quick action throttle and a nylon lined push/pull cable set,  a 2 1/2″ alloy rivet on alloy funnel for the air-box, a 310mm long  choke cable with universal mounting bracket. There are spare jets provided for fine tuning.

Climate, altitude and fuel density from different octane fuels all have varying effects on final fine tuning as does cam, exhaust and cylinder head porting etc. For this reason, we have included what we have found to be a range of jets to allow you to tune to most variables worldwide.

If wishing to modify or use your existing cables, where be advised that most OEM throttles struggle to fully open the TM42, or use your own mounting arrangement to suit the Mikuni TM42,  you can purchase the carburetor, tuner jet kit and or what ever other components you want individually by following the directions below.
